Biography
Val Smith is the author of numerous plays that have been published and produced nationally. Her first full-length drama, The Gamblers, won the Playhouse on the Square's Mid-South Playwright's Competition, and was produced at American Stage Theatre in New Jersey. Her second full-length, Ain't We Got Fun, was commissioned and produced by Actors Theatre of Louisville in the 1993 Classics in Context Festival--The Roaring Twenties. She is the recipient of awards from the Kentucky Women's Foundation and the Kentucky Arts Council. Her most recent full-length play, Marguerite Bonet, was published in Best Plays by Women of 1998. Her ten-minute play Meow premiered in the 1998 Humana Festival. She has also had plays produced at Alley Theatre, South Coast Repertory, and the Lucille Ball Festival of Comedy in New York.
