Biography
Joshua Mikel, from Conyers, Georgia, is a graduate of Florida State University's Theater and Creative Writing programs. His plays include The Monster Hunters (Playscripts Inc.), Good Good Trouble on Bad Bad Island (Playscripts Inc.) PIRATES! Theodore Thud and the Quest for Weird Beard (Playscripts Inc.), Quentin G (Playscripts Inc.), The Red Pants Blue Pants Marionette Spectacular (Playscripts Inc.), Aesop, Come Back! (Playscripts Inc.) Lillian Likes It, Bethlehem Motor Community, My Brother's Knife, Muerte del Maestro, Shelter, Us Peoples. His play The Monster Hunters was commissioned by the Omaha Children's Theater and won the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival's Theater for Young Audiences award in 2007. His play Quentin G was a runner up for the 2006 John Cauble Short Play award at the KCACTF, won the Cody Allen Harris award from the FSU creative writing department, and was recognized by the Atlantic Coastal Conference as one of the best undergraduate honors thesis projects of 2006 at the first annual ACC Meeting of the Minds. His play Bethlehem Motor Community won the 2006 KCACTF southeastern region's short play award. His first full length, My Brother's Knife, world premiered at Endstation Theater Company in the summer of 2009 and had a reading with the 2011 Essential Theatre's Bare Essentials reading series (Atlanta, GA). Good Good Trouble on Bad Bad Island presented by Endstation Theatre Company world premiered at the 2010 New York City International Fringe Festival. In 2019 it received a production at the acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Muerte del Maestro was a Princess Grace Fellowship semi-finalist and had its world premiere with Chicago's Tympanic Theatre Company in November 2010. Shelter was a 2011 Princess Grace Fellowship finalist, and had its first production at Lock Haven University November of 2011. His play, Aesop, Come Back! was commissioned by and had its debut with Mount Paran Academy (Kennesaw, GA) in October 2011. He was the long time resident playwright at Endstation Theatre Company (Amherst, VA) and the co-founder of their summer playwriting initiative. In 2015 in cooperation with Endstation Theatre Company, he developed “The Whole Bunch,†a TYA play aimed at introducing youth to healthy eating habits. He currently resides in Atlanta, GA where he works in film and television most notoriously playing the savior Jared in AMC’s The Walking Dead. His other credits include Daedalus in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones & appearances in the films Game Night, Stuber, and The Dirt .
