Biography
Douglas E. Hughes has been a professional actor since 1979 and has appeared in theatres across Canada and in the U.S. He spent 13 seasons with the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, and another 3 at the Stratford Festival. He began writing in 1991 when he teamed up with Marcia Kash to pen Who’s Under Where? They followed that up with A Party to Murder (first produced in1996), Too Many Cooks, which premièred in 2003, Jack of Diamonds, which was nominated for PGC’s Tom Hendry Award for Best Comedy in 2013, and Something Fishy, won that award the following year. All five works were published by Samuel French, Inc. and have enjoyed over 300 productions in 16 countries around the world, as well as having been translated into 10 languages. Their latest play, Deadline, premiered at The Human Race Theatre Company in Dayton, Ohio in late 2022. In 2015, Doug wrote two short plays for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Decades series.
