Biography
Martha Epstein is an actor and playwright born and raised in New York City. Her first play, The Things She Held, had its Off-Broadway debut in May 2023, with Martha performing in the lead role. As an actor, she has performed in various theaters around New York City and regionally. Recent acting credits include: Mary Gets Hers (Playwrights Realm/MCC), John Proctor Is The Villain (The Studio Theatre, Helen Hayes Award: Outstanding Play), and Man Made (Cherry Picking/Wild Project). She played Miss Julie in The Antigravity Performance Project’s production of Miss Julie. On screen, she can be seen in Bad Shabbos, a comedy starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jon Bass. Martha is the co-creator of First Stage, a show that brings together playwrights, filmmakers, actors, and visual artists to share their original work-in-progress with a live audience. She is also the founder and director of The Actors Playground, a collective of actors and directors that gathers once a month for scene study work at the Chain Theatre in midtown Manhattan. She is a graduate of Brown University.
