Biography
Susan Bernfield. Stretch (a fantasia) was produced by People's Light & Theatre in Malvern, Pennsylvania in 2010, premiered at New Georges in New York City in 2008, and was seen in workshop form in Soho Think Tank's 2007 Ice Factory Festival at the Ohio Theatre. Full-length works include Big Hungry World, Barking Girl, Out From Under It, Tracy Petunia, and a solo musical, Tiny Feats of Cowardice, which have been presented or developed by the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Playwrights Horizons, Adirondack Theatre Festival, FringeNYC, Magic Theatre, Vital Theatre Company, HB Playwrights, Synapse Productions, AndHow Theatre, HERE Arts Center, and Peculiar Works Project, among others. Her plays have been finalists for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, PlayLabs at the Playwrights Center and Mill Mountain Theater's New Play Competition. Ms. Bernfield is also the founder and artistic director of New Georges, an award-winning nonprofit theater company that has produced and developed ambitious new plays (by women) in New York City since 1992. In this capacity, she serves on the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York and is the recipient of an OBIE Award for artistic achievement.
