Biography
Samuel Brett Williams' plays have been developed/produced at the Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, Cherry Lane Theatre, Ars Nova, New York Theatre Workshop, Naked Angels, Partial Comfort, the Lark, the Kennedy Center, Yale University, Actors' Theatre of Louisville, Boise Contemporary Theater, WordBRIDGE, Theatre Squared, Arkansas Rep, the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, and the Joseph Beuys Theater in Moscow, Russia. In 2010, Mr. Williams's play, The Revival, was produced by Project Y Theatre Company, and it was nominated for seven New York Innovative Theatre Awards. The play was then optioned for film by Naked Faith Entertainment, and Mr. Williams was hired to write the screenplay. In 2011, his play, The Woodpecker, ran for two months in Los Angeles at Mutineer Theatre Company, where it was a Backstage Critic's Pick. In 2012, Mr. Williams's play Derby Day premiered in the Clurman on Theatre Row, where it received critical acclaim and was named to numerous year-end top ten lists. This coming summer, Mr. Williams's play Revelation will premiere at the Elephant Theatre Company in Los Angeles, where it will run for eight weeks. Mr. Williams has received residencies/commissions from P73, the National Theater Institute, the National New Play Network, and Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey. He is a past winner of the Helen Merrill Emerging Playwright Award (other winners include: Sarah Ruhl, Adam Rapp, and Annie Baker). For television and film, Mr. Williams has worked for 26 Keys Productions, Room 101, and Hot Snakes Media.
